Critical Media Production
The critical media production consists of three components: proposal, media production, andreflection paper. This is an opportunity for students to draw on the frameworks and approachescovered in the course and use art, culture, and media to produce a theoretically informedintervention or contribution to discourse on equity and diversity in the arts or in a broadersocietal sense.
Proposal (500 words)
The proposal will indicate whether you will be making an audio or video production and thesoftware, applications, and any other technology you will be using. The subject of yourproduction, any contemporary discourse related to equity and diversity in the arts, culture, andmedia, must be made clear. You will also need to contextualize the subject historically andsociopolitically and provide a rationale for your choice of topic and medium. The proposal willbe shaped by the course material and, thus, must include direct references to course readings.Students may work individually or with a partner. If you decide to work as a pair, the assignmentexpectations are modified to reflect that choice.
Media Production
Students working individually are expected to submit an audio or video production between 5and 7 minutes in length. Students working with a partner will submit an audio or videoproduction between 7 and 10 minutes long. Further details about the production expectations andsubmission process will be posted to the Quercus site. I will also post some helpful resources forthose unfamiliar with media production.
