Instructions for the essay assessment & frequently asked questions
1) Choose ONE essay topic out of the 5 topics on the Canvas page:

2) Assign yourself to an essay group/topic via the link
(https://canvas.auckland.ac.nz/courses/105153/groups#tab-21347). Assign yourself into the
group of the same essay topic that you chose. Each group has a limited number of students
who can join, i.e. a first-come, first-serve basis until all spots are taken.
Use the first two lines to write your name, your ID, Lecture name and essay title. If the topic
does not have a title you need to generate a short title. Don’t copy/paste the complete topic
into the essay. (note: mismatch between your essay topic and the essay group may incur

You should use the page to answer the question posed. Use the space wisely to concentrate
on answering the questions. You must support the points made here with appropriate
citations. You should avoid wasting space e.g. by excessive hard returns and subheadings
with a clear space above and below. Try to be concise and avoid repeating statements.
Additional instructions may be given with the essay topic, e.g. provide a diagram or flow
chart.
List up to 5 references on a separate page. These should be listed numerically and cited by
number within the text. Only use peer-reviewed sources (articles, reviews) and not blogs,
news media websites or websites intended for a non-scientific readership. Government
websites such as CDC or MoH can be used in some cases (e.g. for finding statistics on recent
outbreaks). Make sure you provide the complete reference (authors, title, journal, year,
volume, pages). For references from books, also include chapter and publisher. For example:
